You know, one of these days we’re really going to have to get out of the habit of putting on the gig of the bloody year in fecking January; we may have packed out two floors of the Twisted Pepper a mere two weeks after New Years with a lineup that made grown men weep but we did incalculable damage to our livers and to the hopelessly optimistic New Years resolutions and detox programmes of hundreds of the nicest people in Dublin, in much the same way as we did last year with the Peverelist & 2562 gig, so sorry about that, but sure you all looked as though you were having at least as much fun as we were. Still waiting on the go-ahead to get audio of selected sets from the Birthday night up online, you’ll be the first to know as soon as we do.

By way of apology then, for making you all look like weak-willed degenerates ready to throw away your personal commitments to sobriety and chastity we are extraordinarily proud to present an exclusive appearance by a producer who is not only the absolute surefire hot shit this year but who has a long and involved history with Dublin’s bass music scene. BREAKAGE originally made his name with a succession of career-defining records on the late and very much lamented BASSBIN label, prophetically culminating in This Too Shall Pass, widely regarded as one of the finest solo D&B albums of the century so far. Stacks is well known around Dublin as a former Bassbin resident as well as co-hosting the less-imaginatively-titled-than-promoted Don Rosco & Stacks Show on www.powerfm.org every Wednesday at 21.00, originally a platform for cutting edge leftfield D&B and nowadays a haven for up-to-the-minute news about snack food and the rapidly mutating frontiers of the stuff that the heads who used to say they make Dubstep are making instead. Breaker is a Wicklow-based producer and DJ and former

promoter of the legendary Surge nights; known for his legendarily tight mixing and his willingness to raid his crates of old jungle tunes for samples to use in his Dubstep production he’s yet another symptom of the blurring lines and the continuity between the heads representing the sounds and styles.

Steo Infomatics will be no stranger to anyone who has bought a DnB record in the past few years of course, after his critically acclaimed run of smash hit 12″s on the likes of V Recordings, and recently featured in an RTE Radio documentary where he went to Kenya to make a record with an African MC. Tonight will see them turning their hands to something a little different, so make bloody sure you get down as early as you can.

VIDEO MAN! PUT YA LIGHT PON DIS! It’s that time of year again people – in fact it’s about a month past that time of year, when Dublin’s number one purveyors of chesty bass-weight and rude boy percussion celebrate another 12 months of full fat, full frequency, full spectrum
dominance inside and outside the 01 area. Those of you with long memories untarnished by indulgence may well recall last year’s birthday party being one of the busiest nights Traffic (as it was then) had ever seen, with hundreds of sub bass addicts turning out in
droves for to see RANDALL lashing out an historic set of 93 Jungle. Since then we’ve had an incredibly busy year – we’ve been at more festivals than you can shake a muddy stick at, we’ve packed the vaults out with the first instalment of our OUT:REACH sessions and we’ve had some absolutely incendiary appearances from the likes of D:Bridge, Storm, Bailey, Disrupt, Benga, Moose, Equinox, Beta 2, Outrage, Scuba, Appleblim, N-Type, Sabre, Flight, Nookie, 2562, Zero Tolerance, Calibre and many more as well as all the local heroes and the resident DJ and MC crew.

Our Second Birthday is in the Twisted Pepper and just like last year’s birthday will span both floors of the premises with a floor of Reggae and Dubstep and a floor of Drum and Bass. Once again we’re sparing no expense whatsoever in bringing you what you want – ten tonnes of sub bass pressure at a price that doesn’t take the piss. Benga and all the REACH dubstep heads will be lashing out the low slung warrior riddims in the Dubstep arena – if you caught Benga at the Sibín festival (or if you heard the smash hit “Night” that he co produced with Coki) then you’ll know what kind of fire this boy brings. Junglists are being treated to an epic double headed bill of EQUINOX playing a classic Amen set followed by BBC Radio 1 star and all around dance music legend FABIO – again supported by all the REACH Drum and Bass heads.

Finally: massive, massive respect to each and every punter, raver, casualty, DJ, MC, producer, head, promoter, flyer monkey, after party hostess, barman, stage builder, roadie, lighting head, VJ, security head, bouncer, writer, designer and inspirer we’ve had the absolutely unrivalled pleasure of working with or alongside over the past 12 months – you know damn well who you are!
