Click on the link below to get to the download links and more info on the release.

01. Gon – 6
02. Gookey – Magnetosphere
03. Mecca – The power of One
04. Ricky Force – Dreams

DOWNLOAD
DOWNLOAD Mirror

Since Absys records is based in Dublin city we decided that for this release we wanted to do something special and shine a spotlight on some of the new wave of Irish production talent. Since three of the producers on this release are Irish (and the fourth is based in Ireland), and since we have every intention of doing more of these releases in the future, we decided the christen the project as the Amháin series, after the Irish word for “One”, in the sense of unity of purpose and of in the sense of something being unique. We always like to think that there’s no point in giving away music for free unless it’s good enough to pay for, and we certainly hope you agree with us when you say that these four tunes combine to make a very special release indeed.

Ricky Force kicks off proceedings anyway with a glimpse of a more laid-back side to the frenetic New School Junglism and J-Tek that he has mostly become known for; “Dreams” is a tasty arrangement of rolling drums, warm subs and lush pads with shards and splinters of spoken film dialogue that adds to it’s otherworldly charm.

Mecca is a Limerick-based producer who has previously released on Subtle Audio Digital; his track “The Power Of One” is a phenomenally assured composition, kicking off with a halftime intro and some Detroit-esque stabs before plunging into an absolutely bruising percussive workout, before some shimmering atmospherics lower the temperature and cool things down a notch or two. You may not have heard of Mecca before but on the basis of this tune alone I can absolutely guarantee you that you will be hearing a lot more of him soon. Anyone who digs stripped down Techno sounds but appreciates broken beats and chesty basslines will be scratching their heads as to how on earth they managed to score this tune off a free digital release. Dangerous!

Gon is an Dublin-based Italian producer who will be most familiar to Irish heads as the chap behind the counter at the late and much lamented record shop Freebird in Temple Bar, as well as his incendiary Dubstep, UK Funky and Garage sets in venues around the capital. A versatile producer across several genres, his contribution to this release comes in the form of a deep sci-fi tinged Dubstep workout with a strong sense of melodic progression.

Gookey is another one of the most promising of the new wave of Irish production heads; usually known for his modern twist of the original atmospheric sound palette this release (his first ever) finds him rolling out a more urgent, brooding stripped down affair, with razor sharp edits flowing effortlessly over an ominous bassline, one for the DJ’s who like to keep it deep and rhythmical.

So there we have it: four tracks, three Irish and one Irish-based producers, one FREE digital EP mastered to perfection by Macc of Subvert Central Mastering, hours of listening pleasure. Feel free to download, blog, share the links around and play these out as loud as you possibly can; all we ask is that if you share the link you link the release page and not straight to the actual files. Thanks for reading, we hope you enjoy this music as much as we have enjoyed getting it out to you.

Ceol Amháin! Many styles, one music!

Here’s a quick post to mention that Reach will be having their 3rd birthday bash in The Twisted Pepper on the 22nd of January. The lineup looks like this: Kode9, Kenny Ken & Randall along with Mick Pressure, Deltaforce & the Reach residents. Criminal K to MC the affair. To get the whole lowdown on the night I’ll let the residents do the talking:

It’s that time of year again folks, or rather it’s four months past that time of year again, and even that time of year isn’t quite what the original time of year was when we first started off doing all of this – anyway, for all intents and purposes the time of year is pretty damn irrelevant as far as the REAL story is concerned, which is that it’s our third birthday party, and if you know what’s fecking good for you you’ll be there to help us celebrate no matter what.

When we first kicked off the whole REACH thing Dublin was a very different place altogether, you could hand out flyers without catching a gigantic fine, the Twisted Pepper didn’t exist, there was nowhere to buy Jungle in Dublin, Dubstep wasn’t even really on the radar as far as this town was concerned. Flash forward three years and there’s still nowhere to buy Jungle (FREEBIRD RIP, SELECTA RIP), there’s wee kids in neon hoodies playing Dubstep in pubs all over town, no less than six different crews putting on DnB nights, loads more Dubstep and Garage nights and the clubs close even fecking earlier.

We’ve had our ups and downs along the way of course, (OUT:REACH in the Vaults, festival tents all over the country, spelling Peverelist’s name wrong on the flyer that one time) but it’s always been great craic all the same – as both of the people who paid in to one of our earliest gigs will gladly tell you! So big, big, BIG up to EACH and EVERY one of you who’ve EVER been down to a night we’ve put on in the past three years or so, we’re doing it for the likes of ye, so ye’ll have a few stories to tell your grandkids about the way proper sub bass should make your trousers flap around your arse like a flag hoisted on a breezy autumnal day. Also, of course, MASSIVE respect to all the venue owners, barstaff, DJ’s sound system heads, MC’s, flyer monkeys, afterparty randoms, toilet attendants, lighting heads, VJ’s,other promoters, journalists etc that have ever played for us, let us play, given us the benefit of the doubt, turned a blind eye, poured us a whiskey or lent us a few skins, and maximum respect to each every one of you who ever called a well deserved rewind!

ANYWAY, without further ado let me tell you who we have for you this time around:

KODE 9 runs HYPERDUB, and in all fairness if you still need to be told that in 2010 then you haven’t been really paying attention to electronic music for the past few years. Suffice to say that in the 5 short years Hyperdub have been around they’ve completely skirted, written, subverted, crossed, rewritten and ignored nearly every rule in the big book of rules about running a contemporary bass music label, which is about the only sensible thing you can really label them as. Suffice to say that Hyperdub have been at the absolute vanguard of cutting edge electronic music over the past half decade, and I’m getting fierce hard just thinking about teh fact that Kode 9 is playing at our night. Support on his floor comes from MICKY who has managed to put Bagenalstown firmly on the dance music map as a hub for stuff that’s too cool for cities like Berlin and Bristol. Warming up are the REACH dubstep residents, proper fecking order too.

Down in the basement we have RANDALL & KENNY KEN who were both making names for themselves as DJ’s before many of the people who come to our nights were born. Tonight they’ll strictly be playing tunes that could get served in a Dublin club if they had their sister’s fake ID’s on them and they looked sort of grown up and it was all a bit too dark and busy for anyone to notice. RANDALL has been here before, he’s the ultimate DJ’s DJ who pretty much wrote the technical rulebook on mixing Jungle before it was even called that; Kenny Ken is no less deadly and the two of them will be competing to see who can dig back deeper and further through time to draw for crackly old dubplates that noone’s heard out since the days before Naphta went grey. Support from DELTAFORCE - that’s BARRY DELTA and RICKY FORCE, meaning you’ll be hearing all manner of cult classics from the Jungle and early DNB days; getting the ball rolling down early will be the usual REACH residents, keeping it cutting edge before the grandparents show up, hosting duties on the night will be performed by the legendary Criminal K.

See you there!
