This month they have two guests from one of the most prolific labels in Drum & Bass, a CIA double header with not only the label boss but one of its brightest star’s in the form Of SpinBack & Script !!

Spectrum’s own TurnTable TerorWrists Donny Wang ,LpmasterWong , Adrenalin & Nick Fury will be warming things up from half 10 !

Here’s SpinBack’s Bio

The Beginnings
Jason Greenhalgh and Paul Smith first met in 1987, both living in and around the Blackbird Leys estate in Oxford, England and brought together through a mutual love of hip-hop and school girls. Greenhalgh was the first into the studio, with “Freestyle Fanatic” launching his career in 1991. However it was the establishment of the Legend imprint and specifically Greenhalgh’s “Champion Sound”, which really took their profile above and beyond the slew of anonymous white labels that were dominating the music at the time.

Funky Technicians
In 1994, the pair started recording together under the name Funky Technicians, with “Got to Believe” the first in a series of records which pushed the label away from the fizzling darkside movement and more towards the epic string sections and rolling beats which started to appear on labels like Basement, Lucky Spin and Good Looking. The duo continue releasing tracks on Legend and others for another three years

The Creation of Total Science
At the end of 1997, with help from Brilo from Timeless, Greenhalgh and Smith established the CI A label and changed their name to the now synonymous Total Science.
The release of their Silent Reign EP for Goldie’s Metalheadz breathed a new lease of life into the project, and the pair achieved a further boost with a well-timed Bad Company remix of “Champion Sound” which conjured further interest in what they were doing with their own label. Their debut album Advance exposed a further field of interest, with down-tempo experiments logged as a series of “Breaks” on the majority of their early EP’s extended to some superb deep house, this breadth was taken a step further with their Skin Deep imprint which has forged broken beat to considerable acclaim.
The pair’s pioneering of a revival in old-school sounds and arrangements, together with Digital and Reinforced, dominated drum & bass throughout 2001. After this followed releases on high-profile labels such as 31 Records, True Playaz, Reinforced and Soul:r.

The New Millenium and Advanced
2000 saw the founding of CIA’s sister label Advanced, created as a means to keep up with the high level of production output from the duo and their confederates, for which one label was no longer enough.
Following from this came the renowned Sektor series on Advanced. Initially created as a way of combining up-and coming artists with those more established, the series was also developed as a means to stress the importance more on the music than the artists. Featuring artists such as Baron, Digital, D.kay, Lee, Juju, Beta 2 and Klute, the Sektor series included seminal tracks such as “Squash” , and the ever popular “ Champion Sound” remix.

And Scripts …

Script, formally known as “Hades” first got into electronic music in the mid 1980′s growing up listening to breakbeat driven music like Electro.

In the late 80′s he purchased an album called Northern House where he first heard the seminal track Voodoo Ray by A Guy Called Gerald. From that day Script tried to find where he could listen to that style of music with like minded people. He found his weekend home at places like Crazy Club & Fantasy @ Astoria, Breakfast Club @ Buzzby’s, Orange @ The Rocket and various other well known venues which were happy to push the sound of Hardcore music. During these events Script became fascinated about the art of dj-ing and purchased his first set of turntables and a mixer. He was regularly found at certain stalls in Camden market on a Saturday or Sunday morning buying records that he had heard the previous night at these clubs. He has continued to purchase vinyl since then and has a vast collection of Acid/Hardcore/Jungle/DnB and UKG.

It was at these parties where he hooked up with his old friend, Now Legendary DJ Crystl (Deejay Recordings/Lucky Spin) and with his best friend “Osiris” became more interested in the actual production side of the music.

Eventually in Early 1994 after seeing the success of DJ Crystl and getting to meet Pete Parsons (Voyager), Script & Osiris decided to take the plunge and pay a small fortune to buy their own hardware including what was brand new technology at the time, an AKAI S3000XL, Novation Bass Station, Yamaha SY85 Synth and a few more items.

1st Tune Recorded on to Dubplate that Kenny Ken and Grooverider cut :
Searching (Rupture Mix) : Hades AKA Script & Osiris:
http://soundcloud.com/script/searching-rupture-mix-osiris-and-hades-aka-script

After a couple of years, due to personal circumstances Script had to call a halt to the production of music for while, although he kept in touch with artists that he had met along the way and made sure that he kept purchasing vinyl and keeping an eye on where the music was going.

In The late 90′s Script started to explore other forms of electronic music including UK Garage, which ended up taking up a lot of his interest during this “golden” period of UKG. Due to this he managed to get a dj slot on NW London’s biggest pirate UKG station at the time “LUSH FM” and got a prime time slot of 12am-2am every Saturday night / Sunday morning. It was during this time that he started to get the production bug again and got his old buddy DJ Crystl to do a couple of sessions with him to try and make a UKG tune that had a lot of Drum and Bass elements to it. The result was a tune called “The Jerk” which became a bit of an anthem in the NW London UKG parties where he played alongside DJs like Luck, EZ, Spooney and Maddex.
The Jerk : Crystl & Hades Aka Script : http://soundcloud.com/script/the-jerk-hades-aka-script-and-crystl-wav

Through Lush FM, Script got introduced to the management at Flex FM where he was offered a slot on Friday nights playing Drum and Bass and would regularly join Merlin for his old skool hardcore sets on Sunday nights. Via Flex FM, Script attained bookings at such venues like Hidden in Vauxhall as well as dj-ing at parties regularly in the local area.

Fast Forward a few years and Script meets one of his now co-production partners FD through an old DJ friend @ Flex FM (Subterra).A good friendship developed between them and a keen interest in each other’s musical taste drove them to start to collaborate on a few tunes together before finally creating “White Horse” which was instantly picked up by Total Science for CIA Deepkut and was released in June 2010 to high acclaim.
Script & FD have also just had their 2nd joint effort “Sent Down” signed to one of Drum and Bass’s most prolific and well respected labels : Critical. This will see a release on Kasra’s Critical Modulations imprint early 2011.It has had support from DJs like Kasra, Ulterior Motive, Zero T & DJ Lee.
More forthcoming music from Script & FD will be announced in the future.

Another of Script’s collaborators is the mighty Zero T. Together they wrote one of the dancefloor smashers of 2010 “Guessing Games” which is released on Zero T’s Label, Footprints in December 2010. It has been getting wide DJ support from artists like Icicle, Teebee, Jubei, Ulterior Motive, Alix Perez, Rockwell, Ant TC1 and Bailey who has featured the tune several times on his Radio 1Xtra show.
“Guessing Games” was also featured on the globally acclaimed FabricLive series (52) in July 2010
http://www.fabriclondon.com/label/fabriclive/52/

Past and present influences in DnB include : 4 Hero, Crystl, Goldie, Photek, Source Direct, Dillinja, Doc Scott, Grooverider, Peshay, Foul Play, Omni Trio, Technical Itch, Dom, Optical & Ed Rush, Icicle, Break, Zero T, FD, Ulterior Motive, Alix Perez, Rockwell, Goldie, Drkstr, System, Jubei, D Bridge & Code 3, Octane & DLR, Survival

dRamatic & dbAudio Biog>>

dRamatic & dbAudio are producers and dj’s based in Nottingham, England who have both been involved in the drum n bass scene since the early 90’s.
The last two years has seen them join forces and focus on production enabling them to bring together their strengths and harness a workflow and process that is so hard to capture as a solo artist.

Developing a unique style and consistency has been the strategy which has been recognized and nicely summarized in an ATM magazine interview with Nookie of Phuzion Records.
“These guys are really starting to come through now. They’re growing all the time, they’re one of the only new producers around who can do deep, musical tracks but still work on the dancefloor”

Their music has received growing support from key people within the scene such as
Ltj Bukem, Bryan G, Grooverider, Fabio, AI, Marky, Storm, Big Bud, Random Movement, Nookie, Lenzman, Furney, Bailey & Makoto to name but a few.
Having signings from labels such as Liquid V, Good Looking, Ingredients, Phuzion, Soundtrax, Innerground, Telluric and Creative Source the future should be exciting for these guys.

Spectrum this month have Artificial Intelligence in the Twisted Pepper. The London duo are promoting their new album ‘Stand Alone’ and this is your opportunity to check them out. Support on the night comes from The Turntable Terrorwrists & Belfast based Drumology regular: Adapt2. Plus MC Steo will be on the mic. Click on ‘read more’ to get a short bio on the guys.

Hailing from North London, Artificial Intelligence are a production duo comprising of Zula Warner and Glenn Herweijer. Riding high on their early success they state their ethos as wanting ‘ to spread our music to as many people as possible, that’s the whole reason for doing it in the first place. It’s the satisfaction of making it but also of spreading it to as many people as possible. Not like a preacher or someone on the TV. We prefer to let our music do the talking across the world. You make some kind of mark on people’s minds.’

While they have often been tagged as ‘newcomers’ onto the drum & bass scene, the boys are far from it. Working their way up from the top, they have racked up over ten years of experience and boy has it been a busy ten years… As a production unit, A.I’s releases are anything but predictable and they tend to reflect a variety of drum&bass styles. Over the years they have spanned the slighter darker side, with releases out on Commercial Suicide and 31 Record, as well as flirting with some other labels including Full Cycle, Goodlooking and CIA. A.I have even dabbled with commercial labels, releasing remixes of some of the biggest dance and hip hop tracks of the past few years including Kelis’s Trick Me, Eric Prydz Slammin’ and more recently Fat Freddys Drop Cays Crays.

Since their first release, ‘Hooked On’, on V Recordings in 2003, AI’s reputation has been growing with each release with “Desperado” voted as top dnb track of 2007 by Radio 1 listeners and their single “Uprising” voted by the public as the biggest d’n’b track on BBC Radio 1 in 2006. Four years later and the A.I. duo have finally finished their much anticipated debut album “Stand Alone”. The album takes you on a complete journey through all the d’n’b styles featuring collaborations with close allies dBridge, Krust, Marky and the vocal talents of DRS, Jenna G, and Steo. With regular support from the likes of Grooverider, Fabio, LTJ Bukem, Goldie, Hype, Andy C, Chase & Status and massive remixes for Kelis, Eric Prydz, Roni Size and Goldie under their belt, A.I. are set to storm the world with their new album tour from October.
